Life is Better at the Lake!
July 2023
Ain’t it the truth!

Thank you Mother Nature for the amazing snowfall in the upper Colorado this year!

The hunt is on!
June, 2023
We’re on the hunt for the historic River Camp housing.   River Camp was the “dormitories” located right near the mouth of Black Canyon and was used to house workers that were building Hoover Dam.  Will we find it?   Maybe!   This is part 1 of a 2 part series.

Someone had a very bad day…
March, 2023
We often dive new areas of the lake just to hunt around for cool terrain or sunken treasure.
Today we were exploring about a quarter mile off the south shore of Sentinel Island and stumbled upon a small outboard engine that had fallen off the back of someone’s boat many years ago.
Oops.

Forty Two Days of Surface Time Makes The Fat Diver a Dull Boy.
March, 2023
It’s been 6 weeks since we last went to the Lake.  Boo.  This sucks.
Cold days.  Rainy days.  Windy days.
Common Spring!  Do your thing!
On a happy note, there’s been just a ton of snow dumped in the upper Colorado River basin this winter, so this should buy us at least one more year at the lake before it dries up.
(Kidding, not kidding)

Purgatory & PBY dives planned for February.
February, 2023
We have an exciting month of diving planned for February.   It’s been a few years since we’ve dived Purgatory, so that’s on our list of wrecks to visit this month.  It’s also time for our annual February trek to the PBY for a dive to remember our friend Mike who died on this dive.  RIP Mike.  We miss you buddy.

Mission Scuba dives the Cessna 182C Skylane, N511W.
Dec 25, 2022
It’s not all that often we get to dive on a fresh wreck.
Lucky us, we had the privilege of diving this wreck just after ERG Marine located it.
What a day!
Check out the quick video we put together showing this wreck.

Mission Scuba is back in Lake Mead!
August 21, 2022
Woot woot!!   Well, we weren’t actually gone from Lake Mead, we just couldn’t launch the boat.   We did a ton of shore diving in Lake Mead during the period we couldn’t launch, but basically from mid February 2022 until August 2022, because the slope of the Hemenway launch ramp was just too flat, we weren’t able to launch.

While we figured out how we were going to resolve this issue, we put our boat in a slip down at Willow Beach and spent the summer down there.   That was a blast!

Unexpected friends
July, 2022
It’s a three day holiday weekend.   My wife had to work one of the days, so rather than do something productive at home, I boogied down to the lake for a quick shore dive out to the Agg Piles.    At 7am, Boulder Beach was already filling up, so I drove parallel to the shore line to find a good spot to back my car up, not paying attention to the unusually smooth dirt patch with several deep tire grooves.   Before I knew it, I was stuck in the silty muck.   The shame had barely set in before a guy in a black pickup with an american flag waving from a garden hoe hooked in his truck bed was tying a tow line to my bumper and pulling me out.    Mike was his name, and he invited me to park next to his truck and meet his friends.   Mike said he had pulled dozens of cars out of that exact spot over the past couple of weeks, and then pointed to a jeep a few cars away that had pulled him out of a different muddy spot the week before.  I was now part of an elite, yet not so proud, club of dipshits that got stuck in the mud.

Mike, Kayla, Al, and the gang – You are all awesome!  Thanks for the beers, the tow, and a fun afternoon!

Colorado River diving.  Ain’t this the life!
July, 2022
Paddle boarding, hot springs, crawdads, and treasure!   We had a blast spending the summer on the Colorado river below Hoover Dam.  We can’t wait to get back to the lake, but there were adventures aplenty on the river.

Mission Scuba goes to the River for the summer
March, 2022
Well, poop.  The lake is going down like crazy, and the launch ramp is about at a 5% slope currently, which means when I have the car and trailer all the way backed into the lake, the boat is still about 6 inches out of the water!   Yikes!    We’re not going to be able launch until this is corrected, so we figured it was a safe bet to put the boat in a slip down at Willow Beach for the summer.  Many thanks to Dakota for getting us hooked up with a great slip and making us feel right at home.

Annual PBY visit
Feb, 2022
We try to make it out to the PBY for a dive every February to remember our friend Mike.  Like most Februarys, the weather was just awesome.  RIP Mike.  We miss you buddy.

Bodies in Lake Mead?
August, 2021
This was just another routine dive for us.   This particular day we were surveying the Agg Piles and surrounding structures.   I peeked into the sand conveyor access tunnel and panned the camera around.   It wasn’t until I was reviewing footage at home later that evening when I discovered what was down there.
